William Harvey Halsey Obituary

William “Bill” H. Halsey, Jr. passed away on September 30th, 2020 in Katy, TX. He was born November 10th, 1945 in Chicago to Theresa (Philosophos) Halsey and William H. Halsey. Bill graduated from Reavis High School in Burbank, IL, class of 1963. He then joined the military and served his country. Bill was a proud member of the US Marine Corps from 1966 to 1968 and was a decorated Vietnam War Veteran. He received two purple hearts and was a candidate for a third. After his military career he became the owner and proprietor of Lakeside Auto Supply which specialized in sales for auto & speed parts. Bill loved drag racing. He raced top fuel dragsters and restored vintage cars. He always had a smile on his face. He was never one to complain, instead he looked at the positive things in life. His happiness was contagious and he believed in the good in people. Bill was never one to argue, instead he would diffuse a situation with his kindness. He was a good man with a lot of love and wisdom he wanted to impart on others. Bill is preceded in death by mother, Theresa (Philosophos) Halsey; father, William H. Halsey; and mother in law, Gloria Russell. He is survived by wife, Donna Mitchell-Halsey from Katy, TX; sister, Susan Halsey from Glen Ellyn, IL; stepson, Brandon Mitchell & family from Katy, TX; aunt, father-in-law, and numerous cousins and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. We would like to thank the group of nurses and doctors at the Michael E. Debakey Veterans Hospital, Methodist Hospital - Katy, Memorial Herman Hospital – Katy, and Cornerstone Long Term Acute Care Facility and Cinco Ranch DaVita Dialysis Center. Their level of care and compassion was so remarkable and Bill appreciated everything they did for him. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday the 10th of November at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests contributions be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America at https://www.pva.org/
