Dorothy Marie Bonvie Obituary

With deep sorrow we announce the passing of Dorothy Marie (Vacheresse) Bonvie, 89, of Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Riverton, on Sept. 28, 2020. Dorothy was born May 9, 1931, in Stellarton to the late Leon and Mary Ann (Woods) Vacheresse. A graduate of Stellarton High School and the Provincial Normal College in Truro, she taught school in Springville and Island East River before and after marrying her true love, Joseph Bernard “Bernie” Bonvie, in 1950. She devoted most of her life to her important roles of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Dorothy spent many joyful hours outdoors picking wild berries, fishing for brook trout, camping, and gardening in the greenhouse Bernie built for her. She loved a good game of cards and a good game of baseball, whether she was cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays or members of her family playing at local ball fields. Many people have sought after and thoroughly enjoyed her hand-knitted mittens (‘Grammie’s signature pattern’) and baked goods, including her legendary bunny cakes at Easter. She welcomed family and friends into her cozy home with a beautiful smile and a hug, always finding room for ‘one more’ at the table. Dorothy was a woman of strong faith, a lifelong member of Our Lady of Lourdes parish. Her greatest joy was her family. She cherished having her loved ones together during family gatherings and also special one-on-one time with them. We will miss her dearly, remember her fondly, and love her always. Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bernie; brothers Jim, Bernie, Adrian, William Charnell and Joe Vacheresse; sister Winnifred Ratermann; son-in-law Ivan Cock. She is survived by her children: Beverly (John) Ross, Riverton; Owen (Barb) Bonvie, Almonte, Ont.; Donna (Win) Mitchell, Riverton; Karen Cock, Lyons Brook; Keith (Ruth) Bonvie, Florida; Susan (David) Haslam, Westville; Kevin (Darlene) Bonvie, Elgin; Annette (David) Baillie, Lantz; Greg (Dolena) Bonvie, Trenton; Rhonda (Bradley) Green, Lyons Brook; Troy (Krista) Bonvie, Island East River; grandchildren: Sandy (Cheryl), Ian (Wanda), Ryan (Nathan), Mark (Virginia); Michael (Deb), Janna (Steve); Lana (Brent), Vaughn; Christopher, Janette (Matthew); Paula (Tim), Drew (Michelle); Adele (Robbie), Scott (Lauren); Kara (Travis), Steven (Michaela); Danielle, Nicole (Trent), Kerr; Brandon (Natasha), Devon, Dominique (Adam); Evan (Kayla), Jarret (Samantha); Camden, Cale; 31 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Elaine Vacheresse and Ethel Landry; family friend Delores Miller. Special thanks to the staff and administration of Glen Haven Manor for the care and kindness they gave our beloved Mom, Grammie, and Great-Grammie during her time there. Arrangements are under the direction of H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Due to COVID-19, a private visitation and funeral will be held for family only. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery Fund or a charity of your choice. www.angusfuneralhomes.com
