Marie Dunnaway Saginaw, Michigan Obituary

Marie Dunnaway

Marie Dunnaway was born October 7, 1928 in Grenada, Mississippi to Brady and Martha (Johnson) Dunnaway. She went from labor to reward on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at the well-lived age of 91 years. Marie was a proud member of Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully in various ministries for many years. She possessed knowledge and wisdom that was passed down through the years from her mother Martha “Mamo”, who was blessed to see 100 years. Marie was blessed to see five generations and had a message for anyone that would listen. Oh, the stories she would tell… Sitting on her front porch, socializing with family, friends and neighbors was her favorite thing to do. She loved Double Mint gum, butterscotch candy and feeding the birds and cats, who will miss her too. EVERYONE will remember her spontaneous, quick and unfiltered wit as well as her straight to the point attitude. She would always, “Tell it like it is.” Content and satisfied with what life had to offer, Marie never complained or asked for more. She gave unconditional love to her children and family in her own way. She picked them up when they were down, stood by their side through thick and thin, good times and bad times. She was and always will be remembered as a proud, humble, beautiful black woman, that will live in our hearts forever. Marie was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Pendleton; grandchildren, Antoine Monroe, Rozzette Pennington; parents, Brady and Martha Dunnaway; brothers, Lloyd and Reed Dunnaway; sisters, Hazel Jernigan, Minnie Mae Dunnaway, Bernice Dunnaway and Juanita King. She leaves to carry on her legacy five sons, Curtis Pendleton, Derrick Dunnaway, John Clark, Lawrence Dunnaway, William Troy White; twenty-six grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren; brother, John Dunnaway; sister-in-law, Shirley Dunnaway; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that truly adored her, including special friends Bernice Williams, Laura Turner, Carla Garnett, Tanya Buchanan and Sharna Box. The family would like to express special thanks to all their family and friends that would come by and check on their mother. Special thank you to her neighborhood coming together to express their condolences and celebrate her life with a peaceful affair in the park, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
