Leland Allen, 92 year old former Woodward resident died Tuesday, September 29, 2020 in Owasso, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, October 5, 2020 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Leland Merle Allen was born July 31, 1928 in Laverne, Oklahoma to Vern McDowell and Verda Della (Hart) Allen. Leland lived in Laverne and Rosston, Oklahoma before moving to and enrolling into Woodward High School as a Sophomore. During his high school years, he was on the Boomer basketball and football teams. He was a member of The Wranglers, Sea Scouts and the Lettermans Club. He graduated from Woodward High School in 1946.
Leland attended Northwestern State College. While at college, he was a student council member, a member of the Delta Tau Gamma fraternity, and the Chi Beta Nu Honorary music fraternity. He graduated from Northwestern State College in July of 1951.
He married Naomi Faye McAlister on August 6, 1950. They established their home in Woodward. Leland became a medical and clinical Pathology Technician. He worked for the Hillcrest Medical Center.
Leland was member of the Community of Christ Church. He was also a member and officer of the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) for over 40 years.
Leland was a sportsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his family. Leland also enjoyed spending his time with and the company of his coffee buddies in Stillwater.
Leland is survived by his two daughters, Nancy Baker and husband Richard of Collinsville; Susan Whitehead and husband Bruce of Owasso; four grandchildren, Marty Baker and wife Dana of Stillwater; Melanie VanBeber and husband Paul of Collinsville; Ryan Whitehead and fiancee Ashley of Dallas, Texas; Matt Whitehead and wife Kerry of Piedmont; three great-grandchildren, Rachel Brown of Stillwater; Morgan Baker of Stillwater; Jake VanBeber of Boonville, New York; other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Naomi, three brothers, Loren, Bradford (Brownie), and Melvin (Mel), one sister, Lorraine Zirkle, and great-grandson, Brayden Little.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
