Roland F. Morey

NORWAY - Roland F. “Buster” Morey, 83, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at his home with his beloved family by his side. He was born July 6, 1937 at the end of the road on Young Hill in Greenwood, the youngest son of Chester and Katherine (Gregg) Morey. Buster began his education at the one-room schoolhouse in Greenwood and then to West Paris school. After graduation he served in the Army, followed by work as a lumberjack with his family for over 10 years. At age 35 he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems at New Hampshire College and worked in MIS for 18 years, followed by work as a heating technician. During his retirement he built his own home with friend Bob Scott, where he and Carol enjoyed life on the “hill”. He was exceptionally skilled in woodworking and cabinetmaking and built many kitchens in the Norway area. Other hobbies included gardening, hunting, fishing, reading, watching the Red Sox and UConn basketball. Though accomplished in many areas, his family was the center of his life. Buster was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle. He is survived by his companion of 26 years, Carol Emmons; son, Jeffrey Morey of Bloomfield, CT; daughter, Tamara Morey Mitton (Rick) of Oakdale,CT; son, Tobin Morey, (Brenda) of Columbia, CT; 5 granddaughters; 8 great-grandchildren, a sister, Joyce Morey Hamm; nephew Stephen Hakala (Anita) and numerous other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Buster was predeceased by three brothers, Ivan, Lloyd, and Donald; and three sisters, Katherine Hakala, Barbara Patten, and Marie Kilponen. A graveside service will be held on October 11, 2020 at 11:00 at the Wayside Cemetery, West Paris. Following the service, please join the family for a celebration of life held outside Buster’s home at 148 Norway Center Rd., Norway (weather permitting). Covid-19 Precautions in place, please social distance, wear masks, and bring chairs. Arrangements are with Chandler Funeral Home, South Paris, Maine.
