Diane Arvelia (Schomaker) McCartney Bridgeport, Michigan Passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper, with her family at her side; at the age of 80 years. Diane was born on March 5, 1940 to William Wallace and Loretta May (Clark) Schomaker in Saginaw, Michigan. Lived in Bridgeport and she graduated from Saginaw High School in 1958. Diane married Patrick Edward McCartney on November 25, 1961 at St. Christopher Catholic Church, Bridgeport, Michigan. They lived for 10 years in Saginaw and returned to Bridgeport to live in 1971. He died December 19, 2016. She worked for the township for a few years as an election inspector and coached girls little league but otherwise spent her time raising her family of three children: Dr. Michael Joseph McCartney if West Newbury, Massachusetts and Patricia Marie McCartney and Ann Maureen McCartney of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. She has one granddaughter Emily Rose McCartney of West Newbury Massachusetts. She leaves one sister Mary Alice (Schomaker) and spouse Albert Williams of Oscoda Michigan; a sister in law Judith (Suchocki) McCartney of Thomas Township Michigan. She was predeceased by brother Theodore A. Schomaker and his spouse Janice (Tolles); also a brother in law Thomas Richter McCartney and a sister in law Mary Margaret McCartney. She has many wonderful nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Her father predeceased her Nov. 26, 1999 in Saginaw Michigan and her mother in Nov. 15, 2006 in Bridgeport Michigan. She was a member of the Bridgeport Community Church for 21 years and after marriage a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church and it’s alter society until 1971 when she joined St. Francis de Sales Parish, St. Christopher Catholic Church in Bridgeport and part of its Altar society and a Eucharistic minister for many years. A life member of the League of Catholic Women and a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital gift shop for many years. Member of the Historical Society of Bridgeport since its beginning in 1969. Member of the Saginaw Genealogy Society and the New England Genealogy and History Society of Boston and loved doing family genealogy searches and traveling to find out about family. Her family has SAR and DAR for both her mother and father’s side of the family. Her children now live where the early family once lived. She loved reading and golfing and traveling. She enjoyed volunteer work of most kinds and especially at the Historical Village in Bridgeport. She helped publish the Business Directory for many years. Keeping our history alive should be very important to all of us. Knowing our past helps us feel part of something bigger than ourselves. She loved living in Bridgeport. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at St. Francis de Sales Parish, St. Christopher Catholic Church, 3945 Williamson Road, Saginaw. Rev. Fr. John Mancini O.S.F.S will officiate with Rite of Committal to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may visit the family from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass on Saturday at the church.
