Yuriko Dewitt Obituary

MARQUETTE, MI – Yuriko Dewitt, age 91, of Marquette, entered eternal life Monday, September 28, 2020, at Lakeview Assisted Living in Gladstone, in the loving, comforting care of her family. Born April 5, 1929, in Sasebo City, Japan, a daughter of Hidetada and Kome (Yamamoto) Miyanishi, Yuriko was raised in Japan and worked as a social worker. On April 1, 1965, she married Jasper "Owen" Dewitt at the American Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, and moved to the United States. The couple lived in the Marquette area for many years, owning and operating the Fourth Street Laundromat. Yuriko was a member of the former St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed painting, berry picking, flower gardening and making floral arrangements with the flowers she grew. Yuriko is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jaspen "Owen" Dewitt in 2006; her son, Thomas Lee Dewitt in 1991; four brothers and a sister. Interment will be made in the Park Cemetery. Special appreciation to the caregivers of Brookridge Heights Assisted Living and Lakeview Assisted Living for their compassionate and professional care of Yuriko.
