NEW BEDFORD-Julia (Silva) Monteiro, 85, of New Bedford, died Sunday, September 27, 2020 at St. Luke's Hospital following a period of declining health. She was the widow of Pedro Rafael "Piduca" Monteiro and daughter of the late Joaquim Silva Vieira and Maria Piedade Silva Evora. Born in Boa Vista, Cape Verde Islands, she emigrated to New Bedford in 1980. Mrs. Monteiro was a devoted homemaker and loved being surrounded by family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family includes her children, Rita Silva Monteiro of Rome, Italy, the late Agostinho Silva Monteiro, Pedro Silva Monteiro of New Bedford, Maria D. Pires and her husband, Pedro of New Bedford, Joaquim E. Monteiro and his wife, Maria Celeste of New Bedford, Emanuel Silva Monteiro and his wife, Tennille of New Bedford, the late Marcos Silva Monteiro and Carlos Silva Monteiro of Minneapolis, MN; 1 brother, João Silva Vieira of Cape Verde Islands; 16 grandchildren, Catia Candidori, Lenira Pires, Francisca Pires, Julia Pires, Elizett Pires, Levon Pires, Blake Monteiro, Ariana Monteiro, Caleb Monteiro, Addison Monteiro, Erique Monteiro, Valdmiro Monteiro, Sergio Monteiro, Francisco Silva Monteiro, Sonya Andrews and Reneé Andrews; 10 great-grandchildren, Sienna Cruz, Zoe Cippitelli, Essence Monteiro, Elaijah Monteiro, Charlotte Monteiro, Bennett Monteiro, Iris Monteiro, Jacob Brown, Adrian Brown and Zara Monteiro; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Servulo Evora and Braz Brito and a young sister. Visiting hours in the funeral home on Thursday, October 1, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Due to current mandated restrictions, face masks are required as well as social distancing. Visitors may pay their respects and then depart so that other visitors may also pay their respects. The number of visitors is limited so there may be wait times outside the funeral home. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.
