WITHERS, CATHERINE (KAY)

The family of Kay Withers wish to announce her peaceful passing which occurred on September 28, 2020 at the Kingsway Care Centre.  Born in Saint John on August 1,1927 she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Catherine Hay.

Surviving are her children; Andy Withers (Carolyn), Tom Withers (Therese), Dale Cook (Bruce), and Kathleen Nelson (Randy) her grandchildren: Angela, Jenny, Jeffery, Alex (Micaela Cockburn), Elizabeth (Jamie Clarke), Andrew and Adam (Vanessa) along with great-grandchildren: Isla and Jackson, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her loving husband; Phil Withers and her brother: John Hay.

She was a lifelong member of the Quispamsis United Church, and until her health failed was active in the United Church Women’s group. Kay sang in the church choir and took her turn playing the organ. Her yodel could be heard throughout the neighborhood when it was time to come in for supper. Kay was an avid quilter and a founding member of the KV Quilters. Above all else, Kay’s family meant everything to her. One of the many ways she showed her love was through preparing wonderful meals, never coming up empty when asked  "what's for dessert?".  She loved reading, and always had a book in her lap, many times reading the last chapter first.

The family would like to thank the staff at Kingsway Care Centre for their exceptional care of our Mom. The staff displayed true compassion, understanding and professionalism.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Friday from 2-4pm.  A funeral service will be held from the Quispamsis United Church (372 Hampton Road) on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 10am with interment to follow in Black River United Cemetery.   Seating is limited at the church.  For those who wish to attend the funeral, please call Fundy Funeral Home to place your name on the attendees list.  For those unable to attend, a Live Streaming Link will be available online at the time of service.
