Helen F. (Rebella) Doeg Obituary

Helen F. (Rebella) Doeg, age 90 of Warwick, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2020 at Avalon Nursing Home in Warwick. Born in West Warwick, RI, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Leonard) Rebella. The late Louis C Doeg Jr., her husband of 61 years, was the love of her life. Helen’s family was the center of her world, and she cherished being a loving “Nana” to her three grandchildren. Cooking was something that she loved to do. She delighted in preparing Portuguese, American, and all international holiday foods which she made in large quantities for all to enjoy. She was also a talented piano player, regaling anybody who would listen, and would often lead her large extended family, in jubilant song on Sunday afternoons. For many years she enjoyed working at Westcott Bakery. She shared her husband’s strong love of the ocean, and took frequent day trips to the Charlestown shore, spreading many a picnic lunch while watching her husband Louis fish. The Doegs tapped their toes to a variety of music, most notably Bluegrass and Country. Helen’s favorite’s artists included George Jones, Glen Campbell, Ann Murray and Josh Grobin who she listened to until her final hours. With her older brother Anthony “Reb” a tour bus driver, she planned many adventures on the road. She loved high school, but like many of her generation, her education abruptly ended when in Grade 11 she was forced to quit school to help support her family; but she would not be deterred. While her children were in school, Helen continued her education towards her GED. Helen will be missed deeply by all whose lives she blessed. Helen’s love lives on through her four children: Louis C. Doeg, III and his wife Paula, Kathleen Doeg (Medeiros), Susan V. Federico and her husband Jeff, and Leonard “Lenny” B. Doeg and his wife Debbie. She was also “Nana” to three grandchildren: Taylor Field, the late Nathan Medeiros, and Samantha Doeg. She was predeceased by her three siblings: Anthony Rebella, Palmira Carroll, and Mary Cote. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 5 at 11:00 AM at St. Barnabas Church, 3257 Post Road, Warwick. Family and friends are asked to arrive directly to church. Burial will be private. Donations in Helen’s memory may be sent to: Amedisys Foundation (Beacon Hospice) 1130 Ten Rod Road North Kingstown, RI 02852; or to Alzheimer´s Association Rhode Island, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906 http://www.alz.org/.
