Mr. Herbert Ervin Obituary

A Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Herbert Ervin of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2020 will be held Thursday, October 1st, 11:00 a.m. at Aikens Funeral Home, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Min. Aaron Hobley, officiating. The interment will be held in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.

Herbert Ervin was born to the late Rev. Samuel Ervin Sr. and Estella Ervin. He was a lifelong resident of Tampa Florida and was a graduate of Howard W. Blake Class of 1961. He gave his life to God at an early age. He was a longtime member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. L. R. Stancil. After High School, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. He was employed by GAF Roofing corporation, retiring after over 50 years of service. He loved reading his bible which he did daily on his front porch. He enjoyed fishing, race car driving and restoring vintage cars. He was a skilled mechanic that started working at a Judge's neighborhood garage fixing adult's cars as a teen. He was a "master" griller and had the best bar b que in town according to those who have ever tasted it. He departed this life on September 26, quietly and peacefully. 

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, son, Herbert Lamar Ervin; brother, Samuel L. Ervin Jr.; sisters, Lila Joyce McCardy and Mattie Ervin and niece, Sandra Ervin. 

He leaves to cherish his special memories and moments with his daughter, Yolanda Maria Ervin; sister, Lee Etta Love of Columbia South Carolina; sister in law, Esther Ervin of Tampa, Florida; nephews, Lt. Col (Ret) Robert Love and Rodney Love both of Columbia, South Carolina; nieces, Torya Powell of Marlboro, Maryland and Cynthia Ervin of Tampa, Florida; devoted goddaughter, Marquisha Wynn; a special thank you to his devoted and best friends, Aaron Hobley and Marquis Wynn who were like sons to him; the neighbors of Elm Street, Henry and Arlie Paige, Al, Charles, Irving and Louise Ward and Stephanie, you all truly live up to the command; Love Thy neighbor.

The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. We are following the CDC guidelines.
