Presque Isle – Lottie A. Ireland 91, passed away on September 24, 2020 at her residence in Presque Isle. She was born on April 13th 1929, in Wicklow, NB, Canada, the daughter of Lee and Josephine (Demerchant) Canam. She is survived by two daughters Pat Good and her husband Galen of Presque Isle, Shirley Ireland of Seward, AK and two sons Donald Ireland of Seward, AK.; and Bob and his wife Eileen Spinney of Ontario, NB. Lottie’s eight precious grandchildren John of Presque Isle; Jerry and his wife Renee of Milton, FL; Jamie of Meredith, N.H., Jason and his wife Jennifer of Hermon, ME; Chris and her husband Jeff Deptula of Anchorage, AK; Kerri Higley and her husband Billy of Niceville, Fl. Angela and her partner Al Roth of Ottawa, Ontario; Heather and her husband Shawn Sutherland of Ottawa, Ontario. Lottie cherish her 11 great grandchildren, Brittany and her husband Lucas Johnson of Sanford, ME., Julia of Presque Isle; Whitney & Estelle of Meredith N.H.; Brooklyn, Trey, & Kaden of Hermon, ME; John Trueblood Jr. of Anchorage AK; Krista and Lucas of Niceville, FL.; and Hannah of Ottawa, Ontario. She has one great great grandson Kashious of Anchorage, Ak. She is survived by her three brothers, Bud, Frederick, and Kenneth, all of New Brunswick, Canada, two sister Mary Anthony of Yarmouth, ME and Susan Clair of Mapleton, ME. She was predeceased by her parents Josephine & Lee Canam, sister Ann, brothers Chester, Bobby, Glazier and her daughter Jean Ireland and Donald Ireland. She loved to play cards and went to Canada every week to play cards with her brothers and friends. She also plays cards here in town with her friends. She was a great cribbage player . She was an excellent bowler bowling the ten pins and candle pins. She worked at the Modern Cleaners for many years. Then worked at the drug chain of stores of Brooks, LaVerdiere’s, and Rite Aid. She worked the election here in Presque Isle for many years. She was very active in the Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954. On March 14 2015 she was presented the Elk of the Year Award. Lottie was one of the first women admitted as a member of the Presque Isle Elks Lodge in 1996. Prior to being a member of the lodge, she had worked for decades at the lodge as a member of Elks Emblem Club. She was the chairperson for the Presque Isle Elk’s National Service Committee. She championed the causes of military service veterans and implemented the Adopt-a-Vet program which provides essential appliances and other household goods to economically disadvantaged veterans. She also organized entertainment for veterans at the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou. She was nominated for Elks Veterans Volunteer of the Year and was known as being an inspiration to all of the Presque Isle Elks. She loved and was loved by most people who met her and had a lot of endearing lifelong friends. A celebration of Lottie’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3rd 2020 at the Presque Isle Elks Lodge 508 Main St. Presque Isle. Family and friends are invited to gather at 4:30 PM at Fairmount Cemetery for a committal service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bowers Funeral Home 238 Main Street Presque Isle.
