Mary Elizabeth Metzger, age 86, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Granite Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mary was born on January 22, 1934 in Venice, IL, a daughter of the late Adam and Bertha (Seats) Beyer. On December 9, 1951, Mary Beyer married Jesse Metzger, the love of her life and Jesse passed away on October 30, 2015. Mary was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and a friend to many. She never met a stranger and she was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Mary had worked at Huck’s as a sales associate for many years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Mary loved life, loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her sisters, Lucille, Louise, Wanda, Ruby, Yvonne, Rosalie and Faye; and by one brother, Lester. Mary is survived by her loving children, Jay (Cindy) Metzger of Ashdown, AR, Jayne (Doug) Sawyer of Granite City, IL and Judy Argabright of Calhoun, GA; dear brother, Don (Marilyn) Beyer; proud grandmother to Patrick (Jen) Metzger, Matthew (Kacie) Metzger, Elliot (Shelby) Metzger, Rory Sawyer and Angela (David) Bagwill; proud great-grandmother to Emma Metzger, Summer Campbell, Braxton Campbell, Deacon Bagwill and Daisy Bagwill; many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. In celebration of her life, a private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, IL, with Pastor Darren Beyer officiating. Memorial donations may be given to the National Foundation for Autism Research. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
