Maria Ciccone Timmins, Ontario Obituary

Maria Ciccone

Maria Victoria Ciccone (nee DiTullio), also lovingly known as Ma, Mama, Zia Maria, Nanny and Great-grandmama passed away peacefully in hospice care on September 28th, 2020, at the age of 97 (exactly one month shy of her 98th birthday). Right up to her final days, Maria’s strong will and independent spirit was undeniable. Having survived the war, Maria and (predeceased) husband Arturo, immigrated to Canada from Italy in 1954, to give their family a better life. Maria quickly learned a new language and a new way of life, all the while remaining a committed and hardworking wife and mother. She was a devoted Catholic and member of Sacred Heart Parish, where she served as Treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary for several years organizing fundraisers for the Church community. Maria’s faith and family were the pillars of strength and happiness in her life. Maria also loved to cook… and boy could she cook. At home for family or at the Danté Club cooking with friends, for Maria food was the way to the heart. Nothing made her happier than to see everyone come together to enjoy a meal she had prepared. Maria is survived by her Daughter AlphonsinaSadites (Richard); and Son Alvano Ciccone (Patricia); Grandchildren Dean Sadites, Jason Sadites (Jennifer) Katrina Piccolo (Ryan) and Andrea Ciccone-Leoni (Ben) as well as her Great Grand-sons; Tyler Sadites, and Grayson and Cole Piccolo. The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Gino Spigarelli (Rita), who was a great friend and support to Maria and the family during her elderly years. Maria loved Gino like a son and we will forever be grateful for the very special bond they shared. Due to the current circumstances around Covid-19, there will only be a private family memorial and graveyard service. You may pay your respects online with Miron-Wilson and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Timmins & District Hospital. Mama, our plates may be emptier now, but our hearts will remain forever full because of you. We love you.
