Virgil L. Blum Obituary

Virgil L. Blum, age 81, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born June 17, 1939, the son of Lawrence and Marie (Block) Blum. Virgil graduated from Lancaster High School in 1957. He was united in marriage to Janet E. Jackering on June 9, 1959 at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. Virgil was employed at Caradco, DX-People's Oil, University of Wisconsin Platteville, and later, was the maintenance manager for Lancaster Community Schools. In 1975, he opened Blum's Building and Remodeling until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing the accordion, listening to Polka music, and antique cars. Virgil was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church and the Classy Chassis Car Club. Survivors include his loving wife, Janet; their children: Cheryl (Ben) Garcia; Linda (Joe) Schwab; 2 grandsons, Jerry (Kendra Hoeger) Schwab and Greg (Taylor Elliott) Schwab; one great-grandson, Oliver Schwab; a great-granddaughter, Holley Schwab; his sister, LaVon Blum; a sister-in-law, Barbara Kartman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by a sister, Kay Blum; a brother, Larry Blum; a brother-in-law, Carter Kartman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church with Father William Vernon officiating. Burial will be in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church and on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Due to COVID-19, social distancing will be observed, and masks are requested during the visitation and the mass. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is serving the family.
