Matthew Cameron Obituary

Matt was born on November 24, 1977 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Denton J. Cameron and Deborah Howard Cameron. The 24th fell on Thanksgiving that year, something he thought of as a fun coincidence but that those around him found perfectly befitting of the person he was. We were thankful for every day we had with him. He was a man like you don’t find anymore – he did it all on his own, asked for nothing, took care of everybody, and was grateful for everything. He was raised on Hazel Street in Glendale, CA, by his beloved mother and among aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. He graduated from UC Berkeley and the Georgetown School of Foreign Service; served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brownsville, TX. Served the country he loved through foreign service tours in Tel Aviv, Israel; Managua, Nicaragua; Northern Iraq; Mexico City, Mexico; and stints in Baghdad and Afghanistan. His greatest happiness was his family, as he was their’s. He could turn a jungle gym into a monster’s lair and talk endlessly, happily to his children about anything – but especially the Dodgers. He had a knack for finding the perfect word (in a surprising number of languages), for highlighting the one hilarious detail, and for helping us to see clearly what truly matters in life. Matt passed away unexpectedly on September 22, 2020. He is survived by his wife, Jessica and their five children: Oliver (11), Edward (7), Mary (4), Isaac (4), and Alexander (1); his mother, father, and countless cousins, aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He loved them all. He enjoys now the company of his grandparents, father-in-law, and uncle. Thanksgiving day 1977 gave the world a gift for which we will live in gratitude every day. We look forward, though faith in our Savior, to the promised day when we are together with Matt again. I think we’ll all just want to sit and talk with him. There will be so much to say.
