Della Leoncia Cowan Whaley, age 94, of Douglasville, GA, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2020.  She was affectionately known as “Toncy” by all who knew and loved her. Toncy was born in Atlanta, Georgia on August 6, 1926 son of the late William Clinton Cowan and the late Nettie Mae Carter Cowan.  Toncy graduated from Girls High School in Atlanta and later married (the late) Robert Leonard Whaley. They were blessed with two sons of their own and fostered countless more before moving to Douglasville in 1972.  She joined Central Baptist Church in 1975.  She was a member of Charlie Holloway’s Sunday School Class and was involved with their outreach program. Toncy enjoyed word search puzzles, watching the birds and squirrels from her chair, and eating at The Varsity.  Her passion was her family, her church and her Sunday School Class.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Leonard Whaley; son: Larry Crawford Whaley; and adopted son: Marty Dale Brown.She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Robert Michael “Mike” and Judy Whaley; daughter-in-law: Cindy Whaley; grandchildren and their spouses: Lisa and Sam Prater, Chrissy and Andy Harris, Gina and Joe Lineberry, and Matthew and Dana Whaley; 3 great grandchildren: numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Hightower’s Memorial Chapel from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.  The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of the funeral home with Reverend Charles Gibbs officiating. Interment to follow the service at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta with Matt Whaley, Joe Lineberry, Sam Prater, Andy Harris, Jude Harris, and Carter Harris serving as Pallbearers and Charlie Holloway’s Sunday School Class serving as Honorary Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the Central Baptist Church Building Fund.  Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, we encourage everyone to make the best decisions to remain safe. If anyone wishes to attend these gatherings, please remember to remain 6 feet apart from those not in your household and wear personal protective equipment, if available.
