Nicholas Manikas Obituary

Nicholas Edward Manikas passed suddenly while at home on a beautiful September 22nd afternoon. His memorial will take place on October 1st at A. H. Peters Funeral Home in Grosse Pointe Woods from 2pm to 6pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in his name to the Michigan Humane Society or Parkinson’s Research. Nick was born August 22nd, 1956 to John and Carol Manikas. He is survived by his mother Carol, his wife Kimberley, his brother Constantine (Dean), sister-in-law Susan, and his four sons, Nathan, Chase, Hunter and Pierson. Nick will always be remembered as a beloved husband and a hero to his four children. We will carry the immense love for Nick with us forever. Throughout his life he stood as a pillar of justice and worked as a lawyer for over thirty years, serving the community with his passion and dedication to righteousness. As an avid boater, motorcyclist and cigar aficionado, his life was full of adventure and passion. From the picturesque lakes of northern Michigan to the brilliant blue waters of Puerto Rico and beyond, his travels took him far and wide, with his family always in tow. He found great enjoyment from his favorite cinema, Jaws, A Clockwork Orange and Joker, instilling his boys with a great appreciation for visual storytelling. His love of movies is perhaps dwarfed only by his passion for college football, especially that of the Michigan State Spartans, of which he is an alumnus. We are convinced that many games were only won through his unrelenting cheering. He will always be known for his striking wit, compassionate heart and unending sense of humor. In his children he imparted his collected wisdom and the tenants with which he lived his life: appreciation of the natural world, empathy for his fellow man, and an unending strength for his family. We will always remember Nick where he was happiest, standing knee deep in the cool water of Lake Hamlin, sunshine on his shoulders and a smile on his face. The world has lost its best.
