Donald Eugene Tomlin Obituary

Donald Eugene Tomlin, 83, of Barbee Rd. Concord, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the home of daughter, Tammy Mullis, in Salisbury.

Don was born September 4, 1937 in Concord to the late Lue and Clora Tomlin.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Tomlin; sisters, Vernice Bostic and Ruby Goodman; brother, Bobby Ray Tomlin; and an infant sister.

Don met the love of his life, Joyce Gray, when they were 15 years old at Bright Light Baptist Church.  They were married for 58.5 years.  Together, they made each other complete.  Don was a veteran of the United States Navy.  He graduated from Biscayne Southern College with an Associate Degree in Business.  Don's career started as a police officer for Charlotte for 3 years and he spent the rest of his career as a truck driver.  He retired from Local 71 Teamsters Union and won several local and state truck rodeo competitions.  He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Concord and an ordained Baptist Deacon.  Don had a love for people and they were drawn to his sense of humor.  He never met a stranger.  Most of all, Don was a very devoted family man.  He was a loving Christian husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. 

Survivors include daughter, Tammy (Dike) Mullis of Salisbury, NC; daughter, Lou Ann (Neil) Davis of China Grove, NC; daughter, Lisa (Greg Dean) Anguzza of Sevierville, TN; son, Rev. Donnie (Brandy) Tomlin of Mount Pleasant, NC; siblings, Allen Tomlin, Doris Deaton, and Shirley (Eddie) Thompson, all of Concord, NC; 7 grandchildren, Miranda Steele, Patrick (Katie) Davis, Katie Coley, Travis Coley, Breanna (Jared) Graham, Tyler Tomlin, and Carleigh Tomlin; and 8 great-grandchildren, Kara, Remington, Ayden, Kinsley, Asher, Ava, Keira and Amira; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Monday, September 28, 2020 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord.  The funeral service will be on Tuesday at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Rev. Bobby Tallent.  Burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park Kannapolis.
