Judeen "Judy" Hanson Obituary

Judeen “Judy” Hanson, age 85, of Brookings, died Monday, May 22, 2017 at The Neighborhoods at Brookview in Brookings. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM on Friday, May 26th at Grace Lutheran Church in Nunda with Rev. Phillip Hofinga officiating.  Visitation will be 5-7 PM on Thursday at Weiland Funeral Chapel and will continue on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be in the Prairie Queen Cemetery.  Memorials can be directed to Grace Lutheran Church, 203 Church Dr., Nunda, SD  57050.   Judeen Ann Loehr was born August 25, 1931 in Flandreau, SD, the daughter of John & Ora (Nelson) Loehr.  In 1949, she graduated from Rutland High School.  Shortly after high school, she married Merlin “Mert” Hanson in Pipestone, MN on December 6, 1950.  For a brief time, they lived on the east side of Lake Campbell before moving into Colman and from there, they moved to the family farm east of Nunda eventually settling in Nunda in 1957.  Along with working at the Volga nursing home and doing secretarial duties at the Cenex in Nunda and the Wentworth Grain Terminal, she and her husband owned the Nunda Garage from 1957-80.  They also owned Hanson & Hanson Snowmobile in Nunda.  She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she was involved with the Ladies Aid and Sunday School.  In addition, Judy was a member of the Nunda Legion Auxiliary.  Judy is survived by her two sons, Terry (Trudy) of Arlington, SD and Jackie (Margie) of Lake Benton, MN; three daughters, Penny (Steve) Schoepf of Centerville, SD, Tammie (Steve) Price of Custer, SD and Nancy (Paul) Hope of Sinai, SD; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Beverly McKibben of New Richmond, WI; brother-in-law, Frank (Delores) Hanson of Fairfax, MN and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and sister, Marlene (Ronald) Fox.
