Florence Adelle Gehring Obituary

Our cherished mother, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend, Florence Adelle Gehring, passed away peacefully in her home on September 19, 2020. She was born on April 23, 1962 and adopted as an infant by Alice Goodfellow Guyaz and Myron Guyaz. Florence grew up loving the water and beautiful forests of Fox Island, Washington. She was an exchange student in Mexico, an LDS missionary in Argentina, and a graduate of Brigham Young University.

She was most known and loved as an educator and had a successful career as a language teacher. In fact, her favorite places to be were either in front of a class, or with her sons and daughter-in-law. Senora Gehring taught for 21 years and spent many of those teaching at Uintah High School in Vernal, Utah where she was absolutely adored as everyone’s favorite Spanish teacher. So much so, that was also awarded “Teacher of the Year” twice.

Florence was an amazing mother and loved her boys fiercely. She was extremely proud to be a “boy mom.” She was so excited to finally gain a daughter when Adam, Jr. married Jessica in 2017. Florence had a passion for teaching, which transferred to her parenting style. She taught her boys countless lessons that they will carry with them throughout their lives.

Florence had a quick wit and loved laughing and playing games with her family. She enjoyed listening to Earth, Wind & Fire, baking treats on Sundays, anything BYU, reading books, and watching movies (especially Jane Austen or Harry Potter).

Florence was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many callings throughout her life. One of her favorites was being a cub scout leader because she got to spend more time with her sons. She was righteous and good to her core.

Florence overcame many obstacles in her life with grace and strength. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and endured many treatments. Through this trial, she always saw a silver lining and made good friends with all of her doctors and nurses at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Her nurses told us time and time again how special and loved she was there.

She is preceded in death by her mother Alice, father Myron, and brother Alfred. She is survived by her sister Emma (Rich) Brunner, brother Jules Guyaz, sons Adam Jr. (Jessica) Gehring, Peter Gehring, Matthew Gehring, Nathan Gehring, her life-long best friend and honorary sister Cheri (Rich) Himmer, as well as countless adoring nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, colleagues, and students.

She will be remembered as comforting, gentle, thoughtful, creative, strong, passionate, and funny. Florence will be so missed. We will always treasure our many memories with her and live in a way that would make her proud.

“Can I just say… I love you!”

Florence will be buried at Haven of Rest in Gig Harbor, Washington. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 2745 1000 N. St., Vernal, UT 84078.
