Lewis W. Bennett, Sr.

Mr. Lewis W. Bennett, Sr., 86 years 9 months 27 days, died Saturday afternoon (September 26, 2020) at St. Vincent’s Riverside Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL after a stroke and a courageous battle with cancer. He was a native and lifelong resident of Ware County having graduated from Gordon Military School. Mr. Bennett was a self-employed tree farmer/farmer who enjoyed reforestation, gardening and property development. He will be remembered as a hardworking, family man who had a passion for working in the outdoors, trout fishing and bird hunting. Mr. Bennett cherished his family and friends. He was a member of Haywood Baptist Church, and he attended First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents, David H. Bennett, Sr. and Vonice Davis Bennett; brother, Julian B. Bennett; and sister, Genieva Bennett. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Elise Woodard Bennett of Dixie Union; three children, Windel Bennett, Chad Bennett (Jennifer) and Kim Bennett-Callahan (Paul); four grandchildren, Hannah and Parker Bennett, Lauren and JoJo Callahan; two step-grandchildren, Jenna Bryson and Ashton Rowell; two brothers, David H. Bennett, Jr. (Sandra) and Andrew J. “Cotton” Bennett (Sharon) both of Dixie Union; and numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Mr. Bennett's niece, Kathy Mattox, for all her dedication and care to Mr. and Mrs. Bennett during this difficult time. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (September 30, 2020) at Greenlawn Cemetery. Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.musicfuneralhome.com.
