Lincoln - Charles Harold Harding, 93 years old, husband of Joyce Potter Harding, passed away September 26, 2020 at his home in Lincoln, Maine. He was born January 28, 1927 in Lincoln. His parents were Clyde A. and Mary J. (Beale) Harding. Before he graduated from Mattanawcook Academy in 1945, Harold began working at the Lincoln Post Office. He held various positions over the next 37 years, eventually becoming the Assistant Postmaster and acting Postmaster. Transferring from Lincoln, he worked as a Supervisor in the Bangor Post Office and Supervisor of Postal Operations in Millinocket, Maine. Completing over 40 years of service, he retired January 3, 1985. He married Joyce on June 19, 1949 at the First Congregational Church, officiated by Rev. Warren Palmer. They celebrated their 71st Anniversary this last June. He built the family home on Highland Avenue. Now among “the last few” of the old neighborhood, Harold, Joyce and daughter spent their first night in their home on August 10, 1952. They raised their family in this very special neighborhood. Harold was a member of the First Congregational Church of Lincoln and the Congo Men’s Club. He served as General Superintendent of the Sunday School for several years and the Every Member Canvass Committee for many years. He also served at the church’s Annual Riverdrivers’ Supper as Publicity Chairman and as the supper’s Treasurer. Harold was a member of Horeb Lodge #92 AF&AM and the Northern Penobscot Shrine Club. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies and Anah Temple Shrine. Civic minded, he was a member of the Lincoln Jaycees, working on the Miss Lincoln Pageant, Ice Skating Rink and Fish Hill Ski Tow. He was Chairman of the Lincoln Appeals Board for several years and for a time served on the Cemetery Committee. Harold was an Amateur Radio Ham Operator, WAIYZY. He belonged to the Square Dance Club “Barney’s Bunch” and enjoyed the fellowship of the other dancers. He enjoyed the Lincoln Community Band and joined each reorganization. They enjoyed snow mobiling in the winter and their camp lot on Combolassee Pond in the summer. Experienced campers, in 1986, Harold and Joyce joined the Holiday Rambler Recreational Vehicle Club, HoRaMe Chapter #33 and, in later years, the Tampa Bay Ramblers #353. They traveled extensively, visiting all fifty states, Canadian Provinces and, after retirement, spent many winters in Florida.At home, Harold maintained a family garden. He was an active, talented woodworker and spent many hours in his home workshop, creating furniture, swing sets and mementos for family and friends. Harold is survived of by his wife of 71 years, his daughters Dorothy Harding of Lincoln, Betty Keller (partner John Bennett) of Enfield, Holly McCafferty (partner Tim Buck) of Lincoln and son Stephen Harding (wife Lisa) of Biddeford. He was cherished “Papa” (grandfather) to Effie Ruth Harding (Matthew Moody), Chelsea Rae McCafferty, Jordan Shea McCafferty Harris (Jonathan Harris), Jacey Harding Keller, Seth Arthur Harding and Chloe Corinne Harding. His great grandchildren include Emery Colbath; Xander, Bodhi, Kilaynea and Whyatt Harding Moody; and, Reagan and Parker Harris with the anticipation of two more before 2021. Harold was also “Papa” to the Guiod’s – Gina, Tim, Nancy, Margaret, Nick, Sam, Matthew A, Matthew T and Legend - and to Madalynn, MacKenzee and Matthew Moody. He leaves his brother-in-law Elliott R. Potter and wife Bonnie of Tolland, Connecticut, four nieces, two nephews, and their extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers-in-law Arnold H. Sibley and Billy R. Jones and, within the last year, his younger sisters, Eunice Sibley of Lincoln and Ann Jones of Norwood, Massachusetts; his daughter Dottie’s partner Cecile Pelletier and great grandson Linc Harding Moody. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the ”Hal-Jo’s Angels”, a group of various caregivers over several years’ time. Their dedication and care has made it possible for Harold and Joyce to remain together in their home enjoying each other in familiar surroundings. Due to Covid restrictions, services will be held for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Lincoln or the American Cancer Society. Funeral and burial arrangements are being provided by Lamson Funeral Home, Lincoln. interment will be in the Lincoln Cemetery.
