James A. Bentley Obituary

James “Jim” Bentley, 86, of Nisswa, passed away Friday, September 25, 2020 at Good Samaritan Village – Bethany in Brainerd.  A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 2 at Nelson – Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd.  Jim’s family requests you follow COVID safety recommendations and wear a mask.  Interment will take place at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Nisswa.

Jim was born March 12, 1934, in Minneapolis, the son of Henry and Flossie (Shanks) Bentley.  Following his high school graduation, Jim went to work and dedicated 38 years of service to Potlatch.  When he retired, he found two new careers – he was a starter The Pines Golf Courses at Grandview Lodge for 22 years and he was also a courtesy car driver for Mills Motors for several years.  Jim was proud of his 55 years of sobriety and he filled those years with camping adventures, snowmobile rides, and playing many hands of 500 and many rounds of golf.  He enjoyed keeping his lawn mowed and his driveway plowed.  Traveling to the North Shore and taking in the colors each fall was something Jim looked forward to.  Jim was the King of his castle.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carol; daughter, Sandy (Tom) Bentley – Williams; step-grandchildren, Gabriel Williams and Benjamin (Lisa) Williams; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Glen, Bud, Betty, and Mike.

Memorials are preferred to Heartland Animal Rescue Team (H.A.R.T.), Good Samaritan Hospice – Nisswa, and Good Samaritan Village – Bethany.
