Delores Hansen Obituary

Delores (Thomas) Hansen of Sammamish, WA passed away at home Wednesday, September 9, 2020. She was 84 years old. Delores was born August 12, 1936 in Verendrye, North Dakota to John and Gertrude Thomas. The oldest of nine children, Delores grew up in a small, German, farming community. She was a bright child who mastered English in a one room schoolhouse. She became an avid reader and continued her education at a larger high school in Velva, ND. After high school, Delores worked as a telephone operator until her early twenties when she moved West in 1960 and settled in Seattle, WA. Delores was married in June of 1969 to Craig N. Hansen of Seattle. Her journey into motherhood began with the birth of her daughter Michele in 1971. After moving to Issaquah in 1972, she gave birth to two sons, Scott and Neil. Delores was a devoted mother who sacrificed her time and resources for the sake of doing anything and everything she could do for her children. Whether it be taking her daughter to dance class or her sons to their soccer games; she always encouraged her children to pursue their interests and was steadfast in her support along the way. As her children grew, Delores shifted her energies into helping support the family by re-entering the workforce, working as a medical transcriptionist as well as a Mary Kay beauty consultant. Delores interests included reading, sewing, cards, classical music, bowling, square dancing and bird watching. She loved books, the theatre, and quilting, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandson Matthew. Delores was a very social woman and a friend to many. She was involved in the Elks Club, Toast Mistresses, the Quilt Guild, and Book Club. Delores was a spiritual role model who was an example of living her faith. She was involved in the Legion of Mary, the Building Committee, and was a Eucharistic Minister not only at church services but also bringing communion to those who could not attend. In her later years Delores was an avid and very talented quilter. Much of her beautiful work was donated to charitable causes. Delores friends and loved ones will miss her charming laugh, warm smile, thoughtfulness, and quiet, calming presence. She will always be remembered fondly as a model of sacrifice and faith. Delores is survived by her husband Craig, son Neil, daughter Michele, son-in-law Bob, and grandson Matthew. If you wish to offer a gift, please send a donation to the American Heart Association. I love you ma, Neil
