Funeral services for Pamela Ann Welsh, 65, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 3, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, with Major Mary Hunt officiating. Masks are suggested. Pamela died of a broken heart on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital. Visitation will be 1:00 to 5:00 pm, Friday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street. Pamela Ann “Pam” Welsh was born on June 5, 1955, at Aberdeen, SD, to Robert Lyle and Marlene Elaine (Heath) Welsh. Pam was born with a light case of cerebral palsy and was assisted by the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, where she received braces and was able to stand by the time she was two. She grew up in Aberdeen, attended Henry Neill Elementary School, and graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1975. Pam was quite a tomboy and loved helping her dad in the garden. She prided herself as his favorite fishing partner. Pam had many pets growing up. She was involved with Girl Scouts from Brownies to Juniors to Cadettes. As a family, she and her parents would travel to see relatives in Des Moines, IA, Minneapolis, MN, Rapid City, SD, or just to have fun in the Black Hills or North Dakota. Pam was involved in church from the time she was young. She was part of the youth league and loved helping with Sunday school as well as Children’s Nursery. Pam felt proud of her heritage, and took special pride in her grandfather, Otis Heath, who worked for the railroad, and drove the first street sweeper in Aberdeen, and that his brother, Stewart, did a lot of the painting in the courthouse. Pam worked in the childcare field for over 25 years at First United Methodist Church, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She truly had a love for children. Pam enjoyed doing needlework, embroidery, crossword, and jigsaw puzzles in her spare time. She enjoyed baking, submitting entries at the Brown County Fair and several recipe contests. Pam was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church as well as the Women of Salvation Army where she volunteered serving lunches. Grateful for having shared Pam’s life are her mother, Marlene Welsh, Aberdeen, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceding Pam in death are her father, Robert Welsh, boyfriend, Roberto Holmes, godmother, Shirley Nikodym, godfather, Doug Weller, grandparents: Herbert and Pauline Welsh, Otis and Anna Heath; and great uncles, Stewart Heath, Fred Meyers, great-aunts, Louisa Heath, Ruth Meyers, and a number of uncles, aunts and cousins.
