Gordon "Gordy" Donald Himebaugh Obituary

Gordon “Gordy” D. Himebaugh, 78, passed away in the early morning of September 22, 2020, at Peace Hospice after receiving a strong heart, but suffering a complication that took him home to heaven to be with his family and close friends that he longed to talk to and be with. No service is scheduled at this time. Cremation to take place under the care of Schnider Funeral Home. Gordon was born August 19, 1942, in Rapid City, SD to Robert and Martha (Champion) Himebaugh, and raised in the hills of Mount Rushmore with one older brother. Gordy attended Central High School in Rapid City, but completed his education here in Great Falls after the family moved here to work at the shale plant north of Great Falls on Bootlegger Trail. He joined the US Navy in August of 1961, serving one tour. His service as a motorboat operator took him to Christmas Island where bomb testing took place. He completed his service in 1963, bringing him back to Great Falls where he would marry his first wife, Sue Eldridge, March 1966 to 1976, and brought two daughters into their lives, Nysha of Portland, OR and Taya of Great Falls, MT. During this time, Gordy worked as a fire fighter and long and short haul truck driver. After a long-time friendship, he married his best friend, Virginia Golob, May 2006, sharing 31 full years together and adding another loving daughter, Brenda to his life. Gordy enjoyed many hobbies to pass his time. He loved dabbling in anything that caught his interest. He loved to hunt, as long as there were no steep hills and thigh deep snow to trek. He loved to fish, garden, read, and do woodwork. His wood craft would give him great pleasure and calm his active tremors. Creating bowls, keepsake chests, rolling pins, pens and pencils, or whatever he could create to give others special gifts of beauty. He loved old cars, experimented in making rhubarb wine and other spirits. He especially enjoyed keeping in touch with old friends and making new ones. He had a special knack for cooking one pot wonders and yogurt that was always enjoyed by friends and family, such simple but delicious fares passed down to be enjoyed by the next generation. In most recent years, Gordy started to dig deep into his ancestry and connect with people through his search. He had a great love of family and knowledge of our history. He made a special chest to store all of the findings that will be passed down to his daughters and family to continue to enjoy. He was preceded in death by his parents; several aunts and uncles; and his brother, Dexter, who passed away at a young age due to heart problems. Dexter left behind a lovely wife and four young daughters, which Gordy made sure to love and give endless support to over the years. Gordon is survived by his wife, Virginia; three daughters, Nysha (Tim) Himebaugh-Ballard of Portland, Taya (Dave) Anderson, and Brenda (Jay) Warehime both of Great Falls; grandchildren, Carissa, Tyler, Courtney, Trevor, Drew, Kylie; great-grandchildren, Mae and Ava; and nieces, Lorna, Darla, Donna, and Dena. His love is felt deeply by us all.
