John Utter Obituary

John Manro Utter, 67, of rural Ottumwa, died at 2:54 a.m. September 25, 2020 MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. He was born July 4, 1953 in Ottumwa to Vernon and Lois Manro Utter. John married Stacy Weston in May of 1989. John was a 1971 graduate of Ottumwa High School and a graduate of Ottumwa Heights College. He worked for 42 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in December 2016. John was a member of First Lutheran Church in Ottumwa, Ottumwa Masonic Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M., KAABA Shrine Club, Ottumwa Shrine Club, Sons of the American Legion and served on the Wapello County Conservation Board. John coached baseball for Pee Wee boys through Babe Ruth. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, especially a special annual trip to South Dakota with a large group of friends. John also enjoyed breeding and training Labradors. Surviving is his wife, Stacy; their children, Clinton Utter of Des Moines and Kelsey Utter of West Des Moines; a brother, Joe (Mary) Utter of DeWitt, IA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Kimberly Weston of Ottumwa; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lori and Steve McDonnell of Virginia Beach, VA; an aunt, Donna Manro of Ottumwa; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Tyler Weston. Limited open visitation will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, September 29th at Reece Funeral Home. Visitation with the family present will be 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.rfh-ia.com. Private funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 30 at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Johnson officiating. For those wishing to watch the service online, you may do so on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Public graveside service will follow at Ottumwa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Wapello County Conservation Board.
