Walter Frederick Scherer, a long-time resident of Arvada, CO, died on September 7, 2020, at the age of 81. Walt was born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 24, 1939. He was the son of Walter Frederick Scherer Sr. and Naomi Blair Scherer. He grew up in Wheat Ridge, CO and graduated from Wheat Ridge High School in 1957. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1964 from Colorado State University. While a student at CSU, he met the love of his life, Jane Gray, and they married in 1962. Walt worked at the Rocky Flats Plant as a Product Engineer, Program Manager, and Quality Engineering Manager from 1964 - 1992. After retiring from Rocky Flats, Walt dove into a second career as a Realtor with Coldwell Banker and Metro Brokers Real Estate firms. His hobbies were many. Motorcycling was his primary pastime. He also enjoyed tennis, pickleball, golf, bicycling, ATV riding, and during his last few months of life, he took flying lessons. Family was very important to him and he strongly encouraged them to join him on his adventures. He and Jane traveled extensively. Starting in 2014, they enjoyed the snowbird life in Sun City West, AZ. In addition to his wife, Jane, of 58 years, he is survived by his children, Linda Miles (Robert), Eric Scherer (Gwen), and Diane Reicher (Jamie), and eight grandchildren: Kristen Parker (Jeff), Jared and Nathan Miles, Max and Mari Scherer, Avery, Maggie and Benji Reichler. A family memorial was held.
