Betty Grandia Flom, age 82, of Faribault, died Thursday, September 24, 2020 at New Perspective Senior Living, Faribault. Memorial services will be held at Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Jeff Sandgren, pastor of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Faribault. The service may be viewed by clicking in 'Service Webcast' above. Memorial visitation will be at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Betty was born February 5, 1938 to Glen and Mildred (DeJong) Sears in Iowa City. She was baptized at the First Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa, IA. Betty grew up in Oskaloosa where she graduated from high school in 1956 and William Penn College in 1960. Betty later earned both an M.A. in Education and an Education Specialist Degree. On August 26, 1956, Betty married Robert Grandia. Bob and Betty were married for 28 years until Bob passed away suddenly in 1985. They raised two sons, Doug and Drew. The Grandia’s moved to Faribault in 1969. Betty spent her adult life as an elementary school teacher. After starting her teaching career in Iowa, Betty taught at Lincoln Elementary in Faribault from 1970 until her retirement in 2001. She loved to teach and cared deeply for all of her students. Betty and Bob also owned and operated Grandia Gifts & Crafts Store in downtown Faribault for 18 years. In 1988, Betty married James Flom, who she met at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Betty always said that Jim was ‘divinely sent.’ Jim preceded her in death on September 13, 2019. Betty was a kind and generous person, who truly enjoyed making others happy. She loved to cook, bake and do kind deeds for others. She is survived by her two sons, Doug (Karin) Grandia of Grand Rapids and Drew (Connie) Grandia of Owatonna; grandchildren, Zach (Bri) Grandia of Fargo, ND, Jake Grandia of Grand Rapids, Ben and Katie Grandia of Owatonna; brother, Howard Sears of Ankeny, IA and sister in law, Theone Gilbertson of Faribault.
