Michael Anthony McKinnon Obituary

Michael Anthony “Tony” McKinnon The McKinnon family has lost another beloved family member. Michael Anthony “Tony” McKinnon - 68 lost his battle with kidney disease on Sept. 22, 2020 at his second home, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, with his loving sister, Teresa at his side and his second family, Glen Haven staff providing loving care. Tony lived a life filled with people, sports, and animals, mainly stray cats who needed the care and love he showered on them. In his earlier years he lived in Ottawa, Halifax, Dartmouth and Pictou County. He worked as a millwright apprentice, a bartender, a Personal Trainor and worked in security. He loved the Merb, and spent many hours sunning, swimming and scuba diving. Tony was a son of the late John A. and Doris (Coady) McKinnon and is survived by sisters Teresa (Stewart) Morris, Stellarton and niece Jennifer; Mary (Robert) Ellis, Fredericton and nieces Stephanie and Lindsay; brothers Ian, Calgary (formerly of Bedford) and niece Eliana, nephews Pablo and Miguel; Gregory, Plymouth and nephew Tim; sister-in-law Patricia McKinnon, Pictou (formerly of MacLellan’s Brook) and niece Angela, nephew James; brother-in-law Gerald Swallow, Ottawa and nieces Jill and Allison. He was predeceased by sister Angela Swallow, brothers James and John; nephews Tony Morris and John McKinnon. He was lovingly called “Uncle Big Tony” by his many nieces and nephews and their friends, who fondly remember the stories, the animals, the jokes, the fun, the conversations and the van. His bucket list was short, he wanted to see one of his beloved Toronto teams win a Gray Cup, Stanley Cup or a World Series, preferably all three, the Raptors Basketball Team gave him hope it would happen, someday. At his request cremation will take place and there will be no service. He was “The Man, The Myth, The Legend”. He will be missed. www.angusfuneralhomes.com
