Vera Patricia Chapelsky Vera P. Chapelsky, (nee Golda), of Cranford, passed away at age 85 on Monday, May 22, 2017 at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ. Born in New York City to Anna and William Golda, Vera moved to Elizabeth, where her parents operated a confectionary store during WWII. She graduated from Battin High School, Elizabeth and worked for Merck and Co., Inc., in Rahway in procurement. She married her love of 63 years, Roman N. Chapelsky, and continued to work at Merck until her children arrived. After moving to Cranford in 1967, Vera remained at home for many years to raise her family. Once her children started college, she joined the staff of the Student Services division at Union County College. She worked there for 21 years and retired in 2003. Vera is predeceased by her parents, and her brother, Bernard R. Golda. She is survived by her husband, Roman; her children, Romaine A. Chapelsky, Fords, NJ, Daria M. MacDonald (David), Westfield, NJ, and Lev W. Chapelsky, Hollywood, CA; her cherished granddaughters, Julia and Erica MacDonald; as well as her loving and caring nieces. Vera’s family was very important to her and she enjoyed being with them, traveling with them, and spending many summers together on Long Beach Island. Visitation will be from 2-4pm and 7-9 pm on Thursday, May 25 at Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Avenue W, Cranford. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, May 26, at 10 AM at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church, 309 Grier Avenue, Elizabeth, NJ followed by interment at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church, 309 Grier Avenue, Elizabeth, NJ, 07202.
