Rodney Stuart Hermanson Obituary

Rodney Hermanson, 75, Lignite, ND, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2020, in his home surrounded by his loving family.  Rodney Stuart Hermanson was born on April 9th 1945 in Powers Lake, ND. He was born the youngest of four siblings to Helmer and Irene (Ahre) Hermanson, and was raised and educated in Lignite, ND graduating in 1963.  Following graduation, he attended college for two years and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and was deployed as a machine gunner to Vietnam. During his military career, he earned two bronze stars, a combat action ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation ribbon, Navy Commendation ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, and two Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citations. Rodney was honorably discharged as a Sgt from the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion Bravo Company 3rd platoon on September 10, 1967.     After returning home from service, Rodney married his high school sweetheart, Marsha L. Young March 29th, 1968 in North Glen, Colorado. He eventually relocated to Lignite and developed a family farming operation from which he retired in 2006.  He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing at the lake house at Van Hook, hunting, golfing, traveling, dancing, spending time with his family and friends, and checking the fields during harvest. He was family oriented, protective, generous, confident, driven, powerful, adventurous, and a mentor to many.  His loving family includes: loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Marsha Hermanson, Lignite, ND; daughter, Kimberly Hermanson (Christopher Jones) Lignite, ND; Wade Hermanson (Becky Thorlaksen), Burlington, ND; and Nathan (Beth) Hermanson, Spearfish, SD; grandchildren, Jared Lunstad, Dustin Lunstad, Kaden Lunstad, Reis Hermanson, Erica Hermanson, Russell Hermanson, Natalie Hermanson, Caitlin Hermanson; sister, Joy McEvers, Bismarck, ND; sister-in-law, Ermalee Hermanson, Cocoa Beach, FL; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Keith Hermanson; sister, Cherry Bennett; and brother-in-law, Gordon McEvers. Funeral: Monday, September 28, 2020, at 1:00 pm at Christ Lutheran Church in Lignite, ND. Interment: First Lutheran Cemetery, Lignite, ND. Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, please observe social distancing.
