Willard Hurley

Willard Hurley, 68 years of age of Whitewood, VA, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, VA. Born November 1, 1951 in Hurley, VA, he was the son of the late Fred Hurley and Stella Adkins Hurley. Willard was of the Christian faith, a disabled coal miner and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and gardening. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandson Noah. Loving husband, father, fiancé, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Fay Matney Hurley, one sister, Shirley Harman; four brothers, Frederick Hurley Jr, Burton Wayne Hurley, Earl Hurley, and Douglas McArthur Hurley; and one step-son, Chris “Toby” Matney. Those left to cherish his memories include his son, Willard “Bryce” (Rebecca) Hurley of Whitewood, VA, fiancé, Terri Denise Kiser of Claypool Hill, Virginia; five sisters, Joyce Ann Hurley of Oakwood, VA, Betty Lou Estep of Hurley, Jacqueline Hurley of Grundy, VA, Katherine Tester and Sharon Kay Lovell both of Hurley VA; and four brothers, Benny Lee Hurley and Larry David Hurley both of Hurley, VA, Ronald Steve Hurley of Oakwood, VA, Billy Ray Hurley of Tazewell, VA and Joseph Frederic Hurley of Hurley VA. He is also survived by his loving grandson, Noah Bryce Hurley, several nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends. Funeral service for Willard Hurley will be held at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel in Grundy, Sunday, September 27, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with Brother Larry Hurley officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA. Active pallbearers will be family and friends.
