Douglas "Doug" William Goessman

Douglas “Doug” William Goessman, 51, of Pekin passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020 at the University of Chicago Medical Center. He was born March 23, 1969 in Chicago. He is survived by his mother, Lucinda Goessman, and his children he loved very much, Shea Goessman, Addison Goessman, Ada Shipman-Goessman and Cade Shipman-Goessman. His grandparents, William and Virginia Goessman preceded him in death. Doug graduated from Weber High School in Chicago and received his bachelor’s degree in studio art and received his teaching certification from Western Illinois University. He was a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He taught visual arts at Richwoods for 12 years, including courses in ceramics, sculpture, graphic design, painting, and dual credit art. He was a professional artist and maintained his own studio in Peoria. He spent 13 years as a graphics designer at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. His studio work has been displayed in galleries throughout Chicago and internationally, as well as in Peoria. Doug co-founded the Speakeasy Art Center in Pekin, was a member of the Peoria Art Guild and board member of Peoria’s Contemporary Art Center. He was a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association, the Illinois Coaches Association, the United Baseball Academy, and he founded the Peoria-Metro Furies Baseball Club and co-founded the Illinois Steel Baseball Club. Doug was a varsity assistant baseball coach at Limestone High School before taking over as head coach at Richwoods. Due to COVID restrictions, the services for Doug are limited to his immediate family. However, the Goessman family would like to provide the staff and families of Richwoods an opportunity to say their goodbyes. The funeral procession will drive through the Richwoods' Parking Lot at 10 AM this Saturday, September 26th. If you would like to come to Richwoods High School on Saturday to pay your respects to Doug and his family, please arrive before 10 AM. You may line the front of the building and baseball field to show your love and support. Masks and social distancing will be observed. The procession will enter off University St. (by the school marquee) and exit off University St. (by the tennis courts). Private burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin.
