Noreen Backbone Big Hair “Ma” as she was affectionately known by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 21, 2020. She was 72 years old. Noreen was born February 11, 1948, to Frank, Sr. and Pearl Backbone. She was born and raised in Crow Agency and was a lifetime member of the Crow Community Baptist Church. Her greatest hope was that each and every member of her family would come to know, love, and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Her parents Frank, Sr. and Pearl Backbone raised there children in a Christian home. Noreen attended Flandreau Indian School in Flandreau, South Dakota and graduated in May 1967. After graduation, she attended United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, North Dakota in the Nursing Program. She worked with the Crow Tribal Housing Authority, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Crow Head Start Program, and Crow Tribal Senior Citizens. In April 1970, Noreen was married to Jacob M. Big Hair, Sr. at the Crow Community Baptist Church. Some of her hobbies include Bingo, gambling, and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Noreen is preceded in death by her parents: Frank, Sr. and Pearl Blackbone; husband: Jacob M. Big Hair, Sr.; son: Jacob M. Big Hair, Jr.; sister: Francine Camden; brothers: Frank Backbone, Jr. and Alonzo Ten Bear; and great-grandson: Tyzail Ten Bear-Leider.
