Mike Sowtis was born to Harry and Annie (Korman) Sowtis on November 15, 1929 on his parent’s homestead. He was the oldest of nine children. Mike went to Ponass Lake School up to Grade 8. After that he stayed home to help his parents with the family farm. While still at home one winter, he learned to play the mandolin and learned a new tune every night while his brother Alex accompanied him on the guitar.

Mike is survived by brothers Alex (Mary) Sowtis, Pete (Gloria) Sowtis and Dennis Soltys, sister Patsy Chaykowski, sister-in-law Mary Sowtis, stepsons Kevin, Mitch, Randy and Billy Doran and their families and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike was predeceased by his sister Nellie (Dmytro) Mischuk, brothers Metro Sowtis and Paul Sowtis and infant sister Katherine.
