Donald Duane Gage Obituary

Donald D. Gage, son of Donald H. and Beulah (DeVary) Gage, was born in rural Kossuth County, Iowa on April 1, 1932. He passed away surrounded by his family at his home in rural Dolliver on September 22, 2020 at the age of 88 years.

Don graduated from Maple Hill High School in 1950. He then farmed in the local area, before joining the United States Army in 1952. He served in Korea during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1954. He started farming upon his return home. On September 28, 1957, he was united in marriage to Arlene Bondhus at the Palestine Lutheran Church in rural Dolliver. The couple made their home near Swan Lake. They later moved to a farm in rural Dolliver, where they remained until his death. He was a hardworking man.

Don was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville, where he frequently served as an usher. He was a member of the VFW and was on the Lincoln Central School Board. Don enjoyed attending sporting events and school activities for his children and grandchildren. Don and Arlene enjoyed taking trips together; going to visit family in Missouri or Colorado or trips to Northern Minnesota. They enjoyed taking drives together throughout the county as well, checking on the crops, enjoying the scenery, and going out for suppers. The highlight of his later years was his experience on the Honor Flight to Washington, DC in 2014.

Don is survived by his wife of 62 years Arlene Gage of Dolliver; his children Mike (Laurie) Gage of Dolliver and Julie (Rich) Collison of Algona; his grandchildren Karen Gage of Dolliver; Derek (Christine) Gage of Adel; Brady (Cassie) Collison of Algona; and Clay Collison of Sioux Falls; and great-grandchildren Autry, Matthew, Ruthanne, Avery, and Lydia.
