William Lee Nelson

William ‘Bill’ Lee Nelson, 85, of Richland Center died Wednesday, September 23, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 26, 1935 the son of Leon and Lola (Yeomans) Nelson. Bill married Shirley Pinkham at St. John’s Lutheran Church on June 25, 1955 and together they had six children. Bill served in the US Army in the 11th Airborne as a Paratrooper for 8 years. After his discharge he worked in road construction in Milwaukee before moving to Richland Center to work at the Richland County Highway Department. Bill loved to fish, restore old cars and raise giant pumpkins with his largest weighing 945 lbs. He was a great storyteller who could entertain anyone. Bill is survived by; six children: Micheal (Theresa) Nelson of Richland Center, Lori (Evertt) Newberry of Richland Center, Lisa (Rod) Chitwood of Fremont, WI, Terry (Dawn Kinyon) Nelson of Richland Center, Mary (Mark) Crary of Richland Center, Melissa (Richard) Jones of Dodgeville; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Beverly (Del) Montgomery of Edgerton, Judy (Bernie) Hintze of Baraboo, Van (Marie) Nelson of Richland Center, Duane (Nancy) Nelson of Richland Center, Kim (Robert) Huffman of Hillpoint; sister-in-law, Nan Nelson of Richland Center; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, grandson Anthony Lorenz, brothers Gery and Fred and sister-in-law Shirley Nelson. The family would like to thank the Richland Hospital Doctors and Nurses and Agrace Hospice. Military graveside rite will be conducted by the Local Military Memorial Honors Unit at the Brown Cemetery on Friday, September 25, 2020 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be directed to the American Legion Flag Park. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements. prattfuneralservice.com
