Eugene Keith "Gene" Meyer

Eugene Keith "Gene" Meyer, 78, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Golden Living Center-Brentwood from Alzheimer's. Gene was born at home near Cottonwood, Minnesota on September 10, 1942 to the late Paul and Frieda (Westerbur) Meyer. He was a graduate of the Cottonwood Public School in 1961. After high school, Gene farmed with his father. Gene met his future wife, Janice Olson, in 1966 and they were married on January 28, 1967 in Sioux Center, Iowa. In 1992, Gene and Janice moved to Evansville where Gene enjoyed working at Tractor Supply and Rural King. He retired from Rural King in 2016. He loved to tinker and fix things in the garage and had a infectious sense of humor. Gene was active in a home fellowship. Gene is survived by his loving wife, Janice (Olson) Meyer of Evansville, IN; daughters, Eileen Kellogg of Cooper, TX and Rhonda Simpson (Charlie) of Evansville, IN; son, Lyle Meyer (Jinger) of Liberty Hill, TX; sisters, Yvonne Meyer of Cottonwood, MN and Judy Toews (Lowell) of Ontario, Canada; brothers, Darwin Meyer (Nancy) of Cottonwood, MN, Kenneth Meyer (Elaine) of Cottonwood, MN and Larry Meyer (Barb) of Coon Rapids, MN; grandchildren, Leslie Kellogg (fiancé, Ashley), Alana Bartels (Robert), Joseph Kellogg, Adrianna Kellogg, Austin Meyer, Jessica Meyer, Drake Meyer, Daniel Simpson (Cassie) and Logan Simpson; and 4 great grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Kay Fragale. A gathering for family and friends will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, September 28, 2020 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711. The family has requested that everyone in attendance wear face coverings the entire time and have asked for there to be no hugging. Services and burial will be held in Cottonwood, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 6100 Dutchman's Lane, Suite 401, Louisville, KY 40205.
