Obituary
Betty Henderson November 25, 1922 – September 20, 2020 A 70-year resident of Mountlake Terrace, ‘Miss Betty’ changed her residence to Heaven on September 20, 2020. She lived in the same little Terrace house from 1950 when it was built until her peaceful passage at age 97. She was a charter member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and served in many other helps ministries, such as Vacation Bible School and the weekly meals for seniors, throughout her life. For 40 years, Miss Betty was a dedicated and much beloved preschool teacher, a blessing to several generations of little ones. She had a sparkling and joy-filled personality, a sunny smile, and the gifts of patience and unconditional love for everyone she knew. She was such a community fixture that she was chosen to be the Grand Marshal of the annual Terrace parade not once, but twice. Born Elizabeth Elaine Loken in Albion, Nebraska, she spent her growing-up years in St. Helens, Oregon. The oldest of four children of Fred and Martha (Hadan) Loken, she outlived her parents, twin sisters, and brother. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mike, and her son, Frank. She is survived by her daughter, Loretta Henderson-Martin; one sister, Linda Wilcox; and grandchildren Neil, Nathan, Nicholas, Thea, and Corey Henderson and great-grandchildren, Avery, Christopher, and Nolan Henderson, as well as nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Burial arrangements are in the hands of Beck’s Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest with Mike and Frank at Restlawn Memorial Park. A celebration of her wonderful life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elizabeth Henderson Early Childhood Education Scholarship at Edmonds College, so future generations might have their own ‘Miss Betty.’
