Joan Hausman Campbell Obituary

Joan Hausman Campbell, 86, of Louisville passed on to her heavenly Father on Monday, September 21, 2020 at Sam Swope Center at Masonic Homes, after a battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born December 23, 1933 in Louisville one of two daughters to Charles John Hausman and Loretta Wessel Hausman. Joan was a 1951 graduate of Presentation Academy. She received her degree in Education from St. Mary’s College (Notre Dame, IN) in 1955, followed by her master’s degree from Spalding University. She taught Home Economics for many years at Shawnee Junior High, Manly Junior High, Noe Middle School and Lassiter Middle School. Joan retired from teaching to help manage, and later co-owned, her parents’ automobile dealership, Hausman Jeep. She retired again to actively manage her real estate investments. Joan most enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling the world, boating, playing bridge and square dancing. Joan was divorced from Hugh K. Campbell at a fairly young age. Her priorities were raising her children, maintaining the home and teaching. Joan sacrificed things in her own life to make sure that her children were taken care of physically, emotionally, spiritually and educationally. Joan was an amazing mother and role model; selfless, very independent, happy and was always doing and caring for others before herself. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Thelma Dunlevy. Joan is survived by her children, M. Neal Campbell; Gail Oppenheimer (Mark); six beloved grandchildren, Madeline, Max, Michael, Lauren, Clayton, and Charles; stepchildren, Becky Vreeland (Tom), Elizabeth Lynn Nackson and Hugh K. Campbell, Jr. (Cyndi) and many extended family members and dear friends. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Exceptional Senior Living Prospect, Sam Swope Center at the Masonic Homes and Hosparus of Louisville for their compassionate care. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Joan’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2020 at St. Leonard Catholic Church, 440 Zorn Avenue with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2020 and from 10:30 am – 12 pm on Friday, September 25, 2020 at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, St. Matthews. Face masks and social distancing are required. In lieu of flowers, the family sugguests that donations be made to Hosparus of Louisville.
