Robert Joseph Riedel Waukesha, Wisconsin Obituary

Robert Joseph Riedel

Robert Joseph Riedel, Passed away suddenly on Monday September 21st at the age of 83. He is survived by his wife Barbara, children Christine, Michael (Lorri), Daniel (Sue), grandchildren Matthew (Angelica), Eric, Jacob (Megan), Benjamin (Gabi), Danielle and great-grandchildren Lillyana, Lucas and Theodore. Also survived by his sister Nancy Curran and many family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother David and grandson Austin Roth. Robert was born in Cudahy, Wisconsin on November 8th, 1936 to Robert and Anne Riedel (Uldrian). He attended St. Fredrick’s Catholic School and Cudahy High School where he met his wife Barbara. They were married in May of 1957 and settled into a house on Kirkwood Ave. in Cudahy where they raised their family. Bob started a Tool & Die apprenticeship at the Ladish Company right out of high school and finished at AC Delco. Bob had bigger plans though and opened his own business called Riedel Tool & Machine in 1962 on the corner of Kirkwood and Mallory Ave in Cudahy. Through hard work and his natural ability to figure out tough problems he was able to grow his business. In 1980 he moved his business to it’s current location on Mallory Ave. When his two sons and one of their high school friends (Ron Robinson) graduated high school, Bob took them on as employees and taught them the trade. After years of hard work Bob sold them the business in 2002 and it is still in operation today. After Bob left the business, he and his wife moved to a lake home on Lake Tichigan which they fully renovated. Bob soon found out fishing wasn’t his game; he would rather fix the boat then sit in it. He proceeded to build himself a “Hobby Shop” in Waterford, WI. By installing a mixture of metalworking and woodworking machines he soon began his second business taking on small jobs and fixing just about anything for friends, family and local farmers. One of his biggest projects he was most proud of was the work he did at his church, St. Thomas Aquinas of Waterford, when they built a new church. Robert and friends from the parish built the candle bases currently still on the altar. Bob also designed and made the molds for the handles on the doors leading into the church. He reached out to some old friends in the foundry business who poured them for him out of solid brass. He then finish machined them and installed them on the doors. Bob was happiest in his shop making or repairing something anyone else would have thrown away. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and teacher and will be greatly missed by all the people he touched in this world. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 29th at 9:00am until time of memorial mass at 11:00am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church at 305 1st Street, Waterford. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society and St. Jude Hospital are appreciated.
Church & Chapel Funeral Service Serving the Family Milw. 262-827-0659 Wauk. 262-549-0659 Online Obit, Condolences, Directions www.churchandchapel.com
