Carl James Manuel Obituary

Carl James Manuel, 81, of Stonington, passed away at 9:57 a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2020 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Jim was born December 19, 1938 in Taylorville, IL, the son of Carl Oscar and Dorothy (Hunt) Manuel.  He married Luwauna German on July 11, 1987 in Taylorville.

Jim graduated from Taylorville High School in 1956, and went on to work as a belt repairman for the Peabody #10 mine for 40 years.  He then worked an additional 2 years for the mine in Sparta.  Jim was also a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Morrisonville. 

Jim was a hardworking and dedicated coal miner, receiving many awards during his time of service.  He loved coon hunting, trading dogs, and training horses, but most of all he loved his family.  Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Jim is survived by his wife, Luwauna Manuel of Stonington; children, Debra (husband, Michael) Fulcher of Kincaid, and Rickie Manuel of Florissant, MO; grandchildren, Curtis (wife, Lindsey) Dixon of Taylorville, and Kelsey Marie Fulcher of Kincaid; step-children, Denise (husband, Rob) Bates of Sullivan, Mark (wife, Candy) Spencer of Sullivan, Bret (wife, Charity) Spencer of Owaneco, and Pastor Bart (wife, Sue) Spencer of Holland, MI; 17 step-grandchildren, who loved him dearly; 36 great grandchildren; siblings, Pamela (husband, Denny) Lynch of Taylorville, and Gary Manuel of Taylorville; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside Ceremony: 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rob Bates officiating.
