Obituary

Sadly, Veldora L. (Loomis) Butler, Doddie to her family and friends, unexpectedly passed away at home on Sept. 17, 2020.  She was born on July 2, 1942 in Council, Id. and grew up in New Meadows, Id..  She attended all 12 years of school at Meadows Valley High and graduated in 1960.  She spent time working at the Circle C Ranch and, in 1962, she was working at the Forest Service, in New Meadows, when she met the love of her life.  Doddie and Duane Butler were married on June 9, 1963.  Duane later joined the Marines and they spent memorable years in Pensacola, Fl., North Carolina, and California- while Duane was learning to be a pilot.  While he was in Vietnam, Doddie stayed in Idaho.  After Duane served our country, they returned to a life within the Forest Service.  They lived in Council, McCall, North Fork, Idaho City, Flagstaff, Az., and Emmett, Id..  During this time, they raised two daughters and Doddie worked as a clerk for Boise County (in Idaho City).  She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother.  She also enjoyed canning, fishing, hunting, and just going out on adventure drives with Duane.  She enjoyed traveling with family to Alaska and her annual trip to Wendover, Nv. with her sister.  She also loved visiting with family and friends and spending time with her pets.  She will be missed so much by her family and friends.

Many have commented on loving her smile and laugh.  A close family friend wrote:  “Her eyes would light up when she saw you.  She remembered little details about others.  She was genuinely interested in what you had to say and told the funniest stories.  She was just so kind- the real kind of kind.  She would do anything for anyone.  She was the sweetest woman.”

Doddie is survived by her daughters (Niki Butler and Terrie Villas), her 101 year-old father (Warren Loomis), her sister and brother-in-law (Connie and Rick Belnap), her 2 nephews (Kyle and Kevin), 2 nieces, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and many cousins.  All of whom she loved very much.

She was preceded in death by her husband (Duane), her mother (Dorothy Loomis), her brother (Edward Del Mar Loomis), and wonderful aunts, uncles, and friends.

A small family service was held on Wed. Sept. 23, 2020.  When it is safer to hold larger gatherings, the family hopes to have a memorial to celebrate Doddie’s life with all who are able to come.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to the Pet Adoption League in Emmett, Idaho.
