Eileen Samoleski Obituary

Eileen Marian (Healey) Samoleski, age 88 of Moose Jaw, SK (formerly of Shaunavon and Claydon) passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Moose Jaw Extendicare in Moose Jaw. Eileen was born in Frontier, SK on Nov. 16, 1931 to Guy and Muriel Healey. She grew up on the farm and attended Frontier School. After high school, she worked at the Frontier Co-op. On Oct. 29, 1951, she married John Samoleski and moved to the farm at Claydon where they worked together to farm, ranch and raise 5 children. During this time they also ran the local general store – Eileen’s General Store for 15 years. Eileen loved to garden and can. She was always proud to make meals where every part of it had been produced on their farm. Eileen enjoyed cooking and was able to prepare an unplanned meal for 20 with seemingly little effort. She always loved to spend time visiting and feeding family and friends alike – no one ever left hungry! Her children will always remember coming home to the smell of fresh buns and the donuts that she loved to make. Eileen is fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews for providing a welcoming summer home as they travelled from various parts of Canada and the States to spend the summer on the farm. Eileen loved to keep busy and would often say that she couldn’t sit still. Over the years she belonged to many clubs such as the Claydon Ladies Social Club, Claydon CWL, Frontier Curling Club, various choirs, Shaunavon Hospital Auxiliary, UCW, Legion and Shaunavon Seniors. In the winter, she curled in Frontier and she enjoyed travelling with her friends to neighboring towns to curl in their bonspiels. In 1986, Eileen moved to Shaunavon and opened a consignment store. After a few years, she retired and enjoyed her time travelling, square dancing, playing cards and gardening. In 2014, Eileen moved to Moose Jaw to be closer to her daughters and their families. Eileen was predeceased by her husband John in 1985; her parents, Guy and Muriel Healey; sister, Anita Marcinowski, brother, George Healey and a sister in infancy. Eileen is survived by her son Larry (Shelley) of Lethbridge; son Dennis (Edna) of Shaunavon; son Allan (Keli) of Claydon; daughter Donna (Greg Wells) of Moose Jaw; and daughter Judy (Bill Roberts) of Moose Jaw as well as grandchildren Ian (Roxanne), Cory (Jennifer), Shannon, Scott, Brady (Shayla), Kyler (Myrna-May), Kelsey, Jonathon and Sydney; great grandchildren Stephen, Jade, Damon, Emma, Colton, Dayna, Griffin, Kerstin, Austin, Tucker, Dawson, Nolan and Savannah; great-great granddaughter Robin as well as sister Shirley (Larry Uglene), brother-in-law Clarence, sister-in-law Frances (Charles Courouble) and brother-in-law Earl. Due to Covid 19, a private interment service will be held at the Frontier Cemetery. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) is in charge of the arrangements.
