Dianne Gertrude Richardson Obituary

Richardson, Dianne (Surette)

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Dianne (Surette) Richardson, age 69 on Monday, September 21st, 2020, surrounded by her loved ones after a brief illness.

Born in Sydney on April 13th, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary (MacNeil) Surette.

She is survived by her love and life partner of 20 years, Carl Smith, son Glen Richardson (Tammy Besso), daughter Tara (Paul) Nardocchio and her precious grandson Jett Nardocchio. Also left to mourn is the father of her children Lorne Richardson, her brothers Jimmy (Judy) Surette, Eddy (Mary) Surette, Cliff (Renie) Surette, and sisters Mary Rose and Judy Surette. She also leaves behind many nephews and nieces whom she loved like they were her own, and special chosen family Laura and Raymond MacLean along with her honorary granddaughter Rae-Lyn MacLean.

Dianne was a graduate of Holy Angels High School and later went on to graduate from the Cape Breton Business College. Until her retirement three years ago, Dianne was employed with City Homemakers where she formed some beautiful and lasting friendships.

In her early years, Dianne loved to travel around Cape Breton and mainland Nova Scotia to watch her brothers play baseball - she was their biggest cheerleader. She enjoyed gatherings at the family bungalow in Mira, she was an avid dart player and bowler, and she enjoyed playing bingo. She loved a friendly game of poker, which was a Friday night staple for many years, and of course, she loved a good game of Tarabish.

Dianne had some “one liners” that are embedded in the memories and hearts of those who loved and knew her best, especially her life-long friends Linda Aucoin and Cindy Price - memories which will be cherished and laughed about for many years to come.

Besides her parents, Dianne was predeceased by brothers Louis and Neil Surette, sister Linda Surette, great nephew Kellen Surette and great niece Leigh-Anne Cox.

Thank you to the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care Unit who cared for our Di Di with wonderful compassion and skill.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Forest Haven. As per Dianne’s wishes there will be no visitation.

Grief never ends…but it changes. It’s a passage, not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith…it is the price of love. You certainly were loved Dianne, by so many. The fact that you’re no longer here will always cause us pain, but you’re forever in our hearts, until we meet again. Rest in peace our beautiful partner, mother, nana, auntie and friend.
