Janet L. Morrow Obituary

Janet Lynn (Holst) Morrow Jan. 6, 1958-Sept. 20, 2020 PRESQUE ISLE—Janet Lynn Morrow, 62, wife of J. Mark Morrow, passed away Sunday evening Sept. 20, 2020 at her home in Presque Isle, following a difficult battle with cancer. She was born Jan. 6, 1958 in New York City, the daughter of George W. Holst and Jacquelyne F. (Maloy) Holst. An only child, she was strong-willed, strong-minded, and strong-hearted, and she never took no for an answer—qualities that sometimes exasperated those around her but served her well throughout her life. She always knew she wanted a big family and, though it took decades, no obstacle could stop her from making it a reality. Whether it was hitching a ride on a helicopter to get where she was needed, demanding care for a desperately ill child, or living in Africa for months so she could finalize an adoption, she was never afraid to do the hardest of things if it was what her family needed. She graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1975, met the love of her life—Mark—at a church social, and married in 1976. Their adventures together took them to Canada, to Japan and New York as part of his U.S. naval service, and ultimately back to her family in Maine. Along the way, they added 14 children—5 through birth and 9 more through adoption—and touched so many other lives through their work in foster care and with troubled teens, with Heal the Children, through their church, and as mentors to others pursuing adoption. She became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when she was 14 and her unwavering faith sustained her through the best and most difficult of times. She devoted countless hours of service to her church community, working with children and youth, helping to coordinate cultural events, and providing meals and emotional support whenever needed. She was passionate about and committed to so many things—she didn’t bat an eye when she was asked to serve as a department store Santa Claus one Christmas, was a devoted alpaca farmer, was a talented artist who put her skills to work as a self-taught web designer, was active in local homeschooling groups, and even served as the President of the American Gerbil Society. She embraced life fully and was an incredible force in the lives of those who knew her. She fiercely loved her children, adored her grandchildren, and was so immensely proud to be a mother of mothers. Though she will be terribly missed, the strength and love she radiated will continue on. Until we meet again. She was predeceased by her father and is survived by her husband Mark of Presque Isle, her mother Jacque Holst of Presque Isle, 14 children and spouses/partners: Rachel and Raymond Rice of Presque Isle; Sharon and Noah Thibault of Presque Isle; Leeann and William Ward of Bangor; Jackie Morrow and Tai Ireland of Caribou; Seth Morrow of Portland; Liz and Caleb Spragg of Saint John, New Brunswick; Tiffany and John Reed of Springville, UT; Sarah and Jayden Drake of Logan, UT; James and Jennifer Morrow of Presque Isle; Kimberly and Jensen Shaw of Presque Isle; Joshua Morrow of Saco; Ansumana Morrow of Bangor; Faith Morrow of Orem, UT; and Emily Morrow of Presque Isle, as well as 14 grandchildren: Zachary, Belle, Ryllan, Finn, Naomi, Zane, Maddey, Zayn, Sawyer, Isla, Lily, Michael, Lucy, and Alden, and many extended family members. There will be a private graveside dedication. Interment will take place at Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in her memory to the Aroostook House of Comfort, P.O. Box 867, Presque Isle, ME 04769. Arrangements have been entrusted to Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gibersondorseyfuneralhome.com .
