David “Dave” Robert Gilmour, 82, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2020. Dave was born in Montreal, Quebec, but called many places home throughout his lifetime. He worked as a social worker in corrections, a realtor, a professional fighter, and a car salesman to name a few. His previous occupations and good nature always made for the greatest stories. In the later years of his life you could always find Dave in sandals and socks, paired with his Jays cap and a cigarette in hand. He had a lifetime love affair with salt, butter and finding the perfect smoked meat sandwich. Dave kept his television on constantly and was most thrilled to watch sports (any), classic westerns and the news. He lit up whenever he saw his grandchildren and they kept him young at heart. Dave was a fighter until the very end. His strength and determination kept him sarcastic and humorous until his last breath. There was never a dull moment with Dave as he really could care less about what anyone else thought and just lived in the moment. Dave is survived by his daughter, Jillian (Myles), sons, Mark (Satoko) and Chris (Stephanie), his former spouse and cherished friend, Karen, and beautiful grandchildren Jeremy, Emilie, Chloe and Brooklyn. Dave requested no sappy funeral, none of that crying garbage and to just throw his ashes somewhere. His children will be carrying this request out in the near future. A special thank you to the Intercare Chinook Hospice in Calgary for their care and support. During such a somber period, there was always laughter and good times due to the staff’s thoughtful consideration during his nine month stay.
