Walter Lynn Mays Kennewick, Washington Obituary

Walter Lynn Mays

Walter Lynn Mays passed peacefully in his sleep into the arms of his Lord and Savior on September 17, 2020. Walt, known as Lynn to family, was born in Millcreek, PA on November 11, 1928, the second of five children to Walter and Gladys (Lick) Mays. He grew up on a farm near Lake Erie, PA and as a teenager he loved to ride his favorite horse, Patsy. Walt met the love of his life, Violet Marie (Bennett) Mays, in Union City, PA. It didn’t take him long to realize that she was his soulmate and they married on May 26, 1948 in Corry, PA. Together they had five children. Walt served in the ministry for 48 years and was known and loved by many for his Pastor’s heart. He loved God more than anything and continued to witness to everyone he encountered until his dying day. Walt was a small airplane pilot and true American patriot. He was proud to be an American and was frequently seen wearing caps and shirts that displayed the American flag. Walt loved his family very much and was known for being a jokester and a tease. An avid bicyclist, he enjoyed the solitude of being out in nature. He was also a cowboy at heart and known for happily sporting his cowboy boots and hat. Watching John Wayne westerns was a favorite pastime. Walt often reminisced about family memories and would look at the pictures of his grandchildren on the wall regularly. He was right where he wanted to be, surrounded by family and loved ones. He loved to sing Hymns and Praises and his family members were able to witness the joy in his eyes when he heard someone singing for the Lord. Walt was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Gladys Mays, his sister Sally Ann Mays, and brothers Jack (John) Mays, and Roger Mays. He is survived by his wife of 72 years Violet Mays, sisters Vonnie TenPas, Nancy (Ken) Cook, his 5 children Linda (Mario) Rosa, Richard (Connie) Mays, Bonnie Seone, Crystal (Tony) Cianchetta, and Janice Mays, 15 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
